Carmel O’Sullivan began her professional journey as a primary school teacher before transitioning into psychology, a field in which she has worked for over 20 years. Throughout her career, she has provided support to a diverse range of clients, including members of the military, first responders, and individuals in the construction industry.
Prior to entering private practice, Carmel held several roles across government and educational settings. These included positions with ACT Mental Health, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, and a contracted role with the Employee Assistance Provider, Davidson Trahaire. She also contributed to academic life as a part-time tutor and later a lecturer at the Australian National University (ANU). Carmel has a strong background in group work, having facilitated programs for both veterans and compensation claimants. She has also presented at professional conferences and enjoyed mentoring undergraduate psychology students.
Today, Carmel focuses on individual therapy, working with clients experiencing a broad range of psychological concerns, including trauma, depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, and general life challenges. She has a particular interest in supporting individuals who have experienced psychological trauma in the workplace—especially cases of emotional and psychological abuse, which often go unrecognised despite their profound impact.
Carmel draws on evidence-based therapeutic approaches tailored to her clients’ needs, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, Mindfulness Training, and Clinical Hypnosis.
